about
Most probably there are no more beautiful songs than David Bowie's own version of 'Ashes to Ashes', the 'in between' harmonies stirring the emotions. Flunk have had 'Ashes to Ashes' on the list for years, and frankly had no ambitions of matching the original Bowie version.
So bringing it all down is often the Flunk thing to do, while still - hopefully - being able to express the power of this song.
lyrics
Do you remember a guy that's been
In such an early song?
I've heard a rumor from Ground Control
Oh no, don't say it's true
They got a message from the Action Man
I'm happy, hope you're happy too
I've loved all I've needed, love
Sordid details following
The shrieking of nothing is killing, just
Pictures of Jap girls in synthesis and I
Ain't got no money and I ain't got no hair
But I'm hoping to kick but the planet it's glowing
Ashes to ashes, funk to funky
We know Major Tom's a junkie
Strung out in heaven's high
Hitting an all-time low
Time and again I tell myself
I'll stay clean tonight
But the little green wheels are following me
Oh no, not again
I'm stuck with a valuable friend
I'm happy, hope you're happy too
One flash of light but no smoking pistol
I never done good things (I never done good things)
I never done bad things (I never done bad things)
I never did anything out of the blue, woh-o-oh
Want an axe to break the ice
Wanna come down right now
Ashes to ashes, funk to funky
We know Major Tom's a junkie
Strung out in heaven's high
Hitting an all-time low
My mother said, to get things done
You'd better not mess with Major Tom
Last album I listened to was Big Calm so I had to catch up a bit. I'm totally overwhelmed by the quality, lyrics, and mood of this one. It has that chilled, soothing vibe that I love about Morcheeba. Definite recommendation. Henrik
🩶thank you so much martina
i love that when I played along to wyman and hunt on the glockenspiel it was natural for me2 figure out what key it was in even though I find music theory a little traumatic.

Recorded during the pandemic's onset, the album speaks to how so many people felt while cooped up in their homes. Its value will outlast the disaster.

The UK is particularly blessed with talent in electronica, and Sneaker Pimps are right up there with Portishead, The Aloof & Massive Attack in dark urban disenchantment. 2nd LP Splinters is still my favourite with founding member Chris Corner singing throughout, but this new collection of songs is wonderfully different & Simonne Jones’ singing is dreamy & sensual. Fighter is my top song, the lyrics full of vulnerable strength. Mid LP is especially strong, with Tranquility Trap, SOS, and Stripes. Master of Alchemy
